Starting Again!!!!

Whats this blog all about? Not having put pen to paper for a couple of years I decided to randomly write something? No that’s not the answer.

Growing up in the 80’s I remember great music – The Smiths, Duran Duran & Blondie , I also remember the miners strike, Falklands War and the birth of the World Wide Web.

Sport – The hand of God, Daley Thompsons back flip, Big Daddy, Jockey Wilson, Nigel Mansell and Sharon Davies.

TV was a very big part of my life in the 80’s and I was entertained by the likes of the Dukes of Hazard, Airwolf, Catchphrase, Bullseye and Tiswas (Who could forget the bucket of water song!)

There was an event which started in 1981 which I was fascinated with and I have watched it year on year grow and grow, my late father completed it at least three times with his fastest under three hours!, my brother has also completed it ten years ago and I have always vowed to complete it. Of course I am talking about the London Marathon.

This has been a lifetime ambition and is on my bucket list.  I have never completed the distance running and wanted the London to be my first.

Last year I was even closer to running my bucket challenge, I secured a place with a local charity Hospice IOM, this was the 6th year of attempting to obtain a place and i had eventually succeeded.  My training started hard and early in November and by the second week in January I had run a half marathon in 2 hours! ..........Cracked it!!! or so I thought!!! One cold January Sunday morning I got my kit on and headed out for 6 mile outing................I made it 1/2 mile before doubling up in pain with my left Achilles.  To cut a very long story short I rested my leg for 4-5 weeks with intensive physio but never recovered enough to get the training in, I sadly had to pull out!!!!!

Hospice were great, I was gutted and watched in April as all those runners hit the start line, I wished so much to be there.

In October I was eagerly waiting my next ballot attempt which was the 7th year but yet again was left disappointed as I got a negative response!!!
A couple of days later I received an email from Hospice asking if I was fit enough and willing to enter and run for them in 2018!!!

Absolutely made up, so happy I accepted..................  training has started.................
